If you’re anything like me, you know traveling with toddlers can be fun and exciting, AND it can also be a test of where your last nerve is. Trying to juggle everything from packing and planning to keeping your little one entertained and comfortable, there are so many things to consider when traveling with a toddler. I’ve traveled with my little ones and have had pleasant and not-so-pleasant experiences. I want to you help you keep from making the same mistakes I made, and help make it easier for you. Here are 10 tips to help make traveling with toddlers easier:

  1. Plan ahead: Before you leave, make sure you have everything you need for your toddler, such as snacks, toys, and extra clothes. Also, research the destination and make a list of kid-friendly activities and places to visit. Planning ahead will help ensure that you have a smooth and enjoyable trip and create fewer options for the dreaded toddler meltdown.
  2. Pack light: Traveling with a toddler can be challenging, so try to pack as lightly as possible. This will make it easier to move around with your little one and their belongings. Consider packing items that can be worn multiple times, such as leggings and t-shirts, to save space in your luggage. You already have to lug around bulky toddler stuff, try and make it easier on your back.
  3. Bring familiar items: Bring your toddler’s favorite toys and blanket to help them feel more comfortable while on the road. Familiar items can provide comfort and a sense of security for your little one, especially in unfamiliar places. Their favorite teddy bear or something of that nature is great for this.
  4. Bring snacks and drinks: Pack healthy snacks and drinks for your toddler to keep them satisfied and hydrated during the trip. This will also prevent meltdowns and hunger-related tantrums. Try to avoid the sugar. I know it’s easy and tempting, but the sugar crashes…oh my goodness!
  5. Bring a stroller: A stroller can be a lifesaver when traveling with a toddler. It makes things so much easier to transport your child and their belongings, and it gives you a place for them to rest when they get tired.
  6. Bring a baby carrier: A baby carrier can be a great alternative to a stroller, especially when traveling by plane or train. It allows you to keep your child close while still having your hands free to carry other items.
  7. Bring entertainment: Pack books, coloring books, and small toys to keep your toddler entertained during the trip. This will help keep them occupied and engaged during long car rides or flights.
  8. Take breaks: Traveling can be exhausting for both you and your little one, so make sure to take breaks often. Find a park or playground where your child can run around and get some energy out. This will also help prevent boredom and restlessness.
  9. Be flexible: Traveling with a toddler can be unpredictable, so be prepared to change your plans if necessary. Remember, it’s more important to keep your little one happy and comfortable than to stick to a strict itinerary. After all, it’s a vacation…
  10. Have fun: Traveling with a toddler can be a lot of work, but it can also be a lot of fun. Take the time to enjoy the experience with your child and make memories that will last a lifetime. Don’t be afraid to let your child explore, play and have fun in new places and environments.

By keeping these tips in mind, you can make your next trip with your toddler a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone. Creating memories and traveling with your little one can be a bit of a challenge, but with a little planning and preparation, you can make it a successful one.
